Skyrim and Fallout 4 PS4 will have mods after all

Bethesda has revealed that Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 will receive mod support on PlayStation 4 after all, but with some notable caveats.

In a statement release yesterday Bethesda had the following to say:

We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible. Mods on PlayStation 4 will allow you to modify and create your own content by using our Creation Kit. You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do.

While it’s wonderful that mods will come to console versions after all the recent controversy, the fact that mods can only use assets that are available in the game places some huge limitations on modders. Even simple mods like updated maps models or UI interface changes will require major reworking in order to be available to console players.

In addition, Bethesdas official statement says that Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 will both receive PlayStation 4 Pro support as well. Skyrim will run in native 4K on the upgraded system while Fallout 4 will feature improved lighting and graphics.
