Tales From the Borderlands – Quickfire Review

A far cry from the much more serious The Walking Dead, Telltale Games: Tales from the Borderlands is an hilarious, fun, and ridiculous choose your own adventure story that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Telltale Games: Tales From the Borderlands includes everything that we have come to expect from Gearbox Studios Borderlands series. We get the witty dialogue, dark humor, and uninhibited violence that we all love. The story follows Rhys, an Hyperion employee that is trying to work his way to the top, as he gets caught up in a vault key exchange that goes awry. He meets new friends, enemies, and adorable robots along the way. I don’t want to give any details so as to not spoil any of the story. Gameplay is very similar to other Telltale Game series where the player gets to choose how the story progresses, but in the cel shaded Borderlands art style. The main character, Rhys, has a cybernetic eye that allows the player to scan the environment and gives additional details on certain items. You get a small side story in each area you visit and the descriptions are both comical and nonsensical. Make sure you read everything. The spoken and unspoken dialogue is smart and on point.

Bottom line, Tales From the Borderlands does not disappoint from start to finish. I might even put it into a tie with The Walking Dead as my favorite Telltale Games series. And you get the platinum trophy just by playing the game to the end! Although the ending seemed a little more anticlimactic than I would have expected, I loved the game overall. Tales From the Borderlands is a MUST PLAY if you like to laugh and don’t take yourself too seriously.  9.5/10
