[PSX] The Last of Us Part II!

After 3 years… they’re back!

At PlayStation Experience 2016, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog announced The Last of Us Part II! This was completely unexpected (although I predicted it) and the croud went batshit INSANE when the Naughty Dog logo flashed.

The Last of Us Part II takes place years after The Last of Us, Ellie is now 19 and shes even got some tattoos! She’s still a young lady, but she is VERY mature.

The trailer shows Ellie in a house full of dead people she killed, sitting on a bed, playing a guitar and singing as Joel walks right in. She promises to kill anyone, seemingly fireflies, that crossed her.

During a PSX panel for The Last of Us Part II, Neil Drunkmann says: “So much thought went into this and I know there’s a lot of people that feel this trepidation about coming back to these characters and revisiting what that ending means and worrying whether that’s going to spoil the first game,” he said.

“You have to understand we feel all those things as well. No one loves these characters more than we do and we would not do this if we didn’t feel like we had the right idea. The ‘Part II’ is really doubling down on that to say we believe in this so much. We’re not trying to avoid it.”

“I played with so many ideas that had different characters and it never felt right,” he explained. “The Last of Us is about these two characters specifically. So yes, the Part II is saying this is a complementary story to the first game, but the two together are going to tell this larger tale.”

“All I ask is that fans of the first one put faith in us and trust us. We’re going to do right by you.”

Drunkmann also stated that Ellie will be the main character in the game instead of Joel, which we had a few scenes and a DLC where we played as her.

Ashley Johnson (Ellie) and Troy Baker (Joel) have also said that they’ve had facial captures over a year before this panel, so this game wasn;t just something outta the blue to happen.

Concept art was also shown off, which you can view at the end of this article.

The original The Last of Us began development in 2009, announced in 2011, and released in 2013. Earlier today, The Last of Us Part II was said to begin development in 2014, and now it’s announced in 2016… I think going off of trends that it’s safe to say that it’ll release in 2018… maybe in 2019.

For now, we just have this haunting trailer for The Last of Us Part II, which is in development for PS4, with PS4 Pro support. No release date or window has been given for this title as it’s in very early development according to Shawn Layden. Don’t expect it at all Sony events moving forward, but definitely keep an eye out for it. 😉
