PlayStation Platinum Headset

Sony Interactive Entertainment gave us an update on their PlayStation Platinum Edition Headset.

First off, it’ll cost you $160 ($200 CAD), up from $100 with the Gold Edition Headset. It’ll also feature much improved 7.1 Surround Sound by using Sony’s proprietary 3D audio technology! On top of it, Sony has included new noise-cancelling mics thankfully! The headset also has better style, construction, durability, and comfort! This will also have an extended battery life.

Just like the PlayStation Gold and Silver headsets, the Platinum Edition works with 3.5MM devices like PS VR and phones (sorry iPhone 7 owners)!

Finally, for PS VR users, you can get official 3D audio support! What 3D audio does is it makes sounds come from different directions and distances to make them seem closer to real life sounds. Instead of hearing only a left to right sound, best way to look at it is like a panorama image, now you’ll be able to hear sound from above and below you.

What’s even more impressive about this headset is it’s packing in two MASSIVE 50mm drivers compared to the 40mm ones in the Gold Edition headset!

Furthermore, most upcoming PS4 exclusives like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Days Gone, MLB: The Show and more will support 3D audio, which is no longer exclusive for VR.

All previous 7.1 Surround Sound games will still work along with the PlayStation Headset Companion App!

The PlayStation Platinum Edition Headset will be available on January 12th in the US and January 16th.
