Hitman GO Review

Agent 47 is back in this fresh board game style puzzle adventure. Square Enix Montreal released this title back in April 2014 on mobile platforms but finally it has seen its release for PS Vita, PS4, and Steam. I thought this was a perfect time to dive into it.

The game lays out each level on a very clean looking map with set pieces that look like chess pieces. Maps are layed out with points that you must shuffle Agent 47 around between in order to achieve your objective. There isn’t a whole lot of clutter on each board. The pieces themselves look very polished and the style reflects the aesthetic of the Hitman games very well. The music, Ave Maria classic style, playing as you work your way through each level give a pleasant relaxing feel.

One thing that Square did a fantastic job with is that with each new level bringing new elements into the mix. Early on the boards are fairly simple. But as you progress through the game all the new elements start to play a factor. You may need to use a disguise to sneak past a guard or maybe you need to drop a statue in a path to force an enemy to alter their path. The various enemy types mix up the later levels as they stack up with snipers, guard dogs, or guards with shields. Through out the levels you will need to acquire keys for locked doors and trap doors you must go between. All while enemies move about as you shift through a map requiring timing to be perfect in order to get to the objective. If you make a mistake the enemy will move to your spot and just as in chess knock your piece over and you start again. With each change and addition of new enemy types it keeps the game extremely fresh feeling. With also having 3 challenges to complete including capturing a briefcase for each sub level that adds great replay value as well as offers a different take on each puzzle.

Overall I couldn’t be more happy with this game. Some puzzles were pretty challenging but never did I feel frustrated as I was always having fun. Mix that with how awesome it looks and the price ($9.99) its a no brainer to pick this up.

9/10
