Layers of Fear-A Review

Layers of fear is a first-person horror game that takes an interesting twist on what it means to be driven insane. You play as a painter who, as you progress through the game, is gradually losing his mind as he makes progression in finishing his final painting. You begin the game in the foyer of your home, which is very Victorian English in its décor. You explore your home to find the key to your studio, and once you are in and are confronted with a blank (ish) canvas, that is when the fun begins.

Layers of Fear has a P.T.-esque vibe about it, which has been an appealing draw in itself. P.T. of course was Konami’s demo project for a future Silent Hill game. The overall feel for the environment is pretty creepy, you start in a normal home and as you progress, it turns into a nightmare where you are confronted with your past which led to the present. This is a game you HAVE to play with headphones for the sake of getting the full experience. I neglected myself of the experience because you know…I was scared. The environment constantly evolves with its sound, crying, creaking, and creeping; and visuals, melting, shifting, and vibrant and keeps you on your toes. And be careful of the woman who begins to appear as you progress, she is after you…and for good reason.

Blooper Team has brought a new story to the realm of horror. Layers of Fear is available on Steam for $9.99, it is the early access version and you are able to play as they progress in its development. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good adrenaline rush and loves to play games in the dark. The first person experience puts you in the shoes of someone and their insanity and it is pretty much loopy as all hell. If you are curious to watch, Survival Horror Network on YouTube has a complete playthrough of the early access or you can watch the trailers on Steam or YouTube.
